PEI RATINGAND ITS IMPORTANCE
ThePorcelainEnamel Institute (PEI) has issued rating standards for classifying tiles according to their
resistance to surface abrasion, such as surfacewear and tear causedby frictionof shoe soles carrying
abrasivedirt particles, e.g. sand, small stones and soil. This causes the enamel towear down, or to
scratch, in the caseof polishedporcelain tiles. It is essential to choose the correct product, according
to the intendeduse.
